Anita is an enrolled member of the Warm Springs Indian Reservation; she is part Wasco and Choctaw. She inherited her sewing interest from both her grandmothers. Her company, ALJ Handcrafted, was formed in 2011 along with her new sewing career. She added machine embroidery in 2014.
She works with individual customers on designing their orders, but also keeps a few items on hand for immediate sales. Her completed projects range from applique pillows to embroidered Wasco dance regalia to hand-sewn bags. She works with a variety of materials including silks, cottons, buckskin, wool, beads, shells, and other natural products. Her designs reflect her Native heritage, both historic and modern.
